Digital Artefact: Ideating.

I’ve always loved basketball and last semester I ran a basketball-based Instagram page where I regularly posted updates on scores and news. This semester I’m changing my approach and I’m focusing on building my confidence and video skills through YouTube as well as using my current basketball-based Instagram page as a platform to promote my videos.

It will be an NBA discussion channel where I talk about a certain topic each week. I’m aiming to keep the videos relatively short (usually 4-6 minutes) as it will hopefully keep the audience engaged and maintain their attention.

Because of the increasing popularity of Instagram stories, I will predominantly be using this feature of Instagram to promote my videos whilst using Instagram posts to keep viewers up-to-date with NBA news and opinions.

My digital artefact doesn’t necessarily fit the FIST concept but basketball and social media are two aspects of my life that I have a huge passion for and I want to showcase that passion to the online world.

I’m also using Reddit at the moment to help with ideas for videos but it hasn’t been going so well. Hopefully once I post some content in subreddits then I’ll gain some feedback and we’ll be on the road to success.

  1. I think that’s a really good idea and I like the way you are expanding your idea. Have you thought about like connecting both Australian Basketball and American, like you could talk about potential players in Australia who could be scouted for the American teams, or if there are any current Aussies overseas playing? That could be a really stupid idea, I don’t know that much about basketball, just thought maybe to get a wider reach of an audience then you are also engaging with us Aussies.

  2. Hi Jack, nice post, short and sweet. I also really like your idea I think with your knowledge and passion for basketball this will become more than just a university project, you could continue this well after university if you so choose. I also like the fact you are using youtube and Instagram as your platforms of choice as they are quite popular in today’s era and will be easy for you to propagate your message, perhaps you could increase how regular you post? This would potentially increase the number of viewers and an audience you receive during your process, just an idea.

Can’t wait to see your project 🙂

  3. Hey man. Killer idea.Personally, I think that because the NBA doesn’t start for a few months it would be a really good idea to focus on trades or trade rumors. You could discuss how the new players will impact on the existing dynamic on each team, additionally you might want to make your own predictions on where people might go/ how they fit in the new team. You could even go as far to try and predict how the season will play out for certain individuals. You could try and guess who you think will be MVP, DPOY, Most Improved etc. This way you and your audience could have a debate on conflicting opinions, causing increased engagement. But yeah, That’s just something to think about.

  4. Hi Jack, your digital artefact idea to incorporate your love for basketball is a great idea, as you seem quite passionate on the sport. Its also great that you are going out of your comfort zone by doing the Youtube… so well done! By promoting your project through two major social media platforms will definitely help others to become aware of your project and want to engage with you. A suggestion would be to have a look at basketball teams not only in America, but the rest of the world too! You could compare and even engage with an even bigger audience! Best of luck to you, cant wait to see more 🙂

  5. Hey, I think this idea will be great. The way you incorporated your passion for basketball into your digital artefact is a smart way to ensure that you will have content that will be interesting for your audience to engage in. I like the way that you are using both instagram and youtube to create an even bigger audience, and again allow them to engage more with your content. I think a good idea and another way to increase your following is if you reach out to other basketball instagrams like yourself to collaborate and create content together or even just to receive a shoutout.
All the best and i can’t wait to see more of what is to come.
